Window Screen Cleaning

Window screens are not the most fun part of window cleaning. They’re dusty, they have dirt and debris stuck in their little holes. They can honestly present a window cleaning challenge. They can also be a lot of fun to clean if you use the right window cleaning equipment.

1.    Try taking them outside and cleaning them with a garden hose. Saved for a hot day, cleaning the windows can cool you off as well! Hose down both sides and leave in the sun to air dry.

2.    The hose attachment on a vacuum cleaner will get dirt out of all of the little holes and crevices.

Removing Stickers From Windows

There are many techniques available for removing stickers from windows, and everyone you ask will probably have their own favorite method. The best advice is to first try and scrape away as much of the sticker as you can with a razor blade. Once you removed as much of the sticker as possible, you will want to choose one of the many products you can use to remove the rest of the sticker.

Goo-Gone is a great product that you can buy from a drugstore or grocery store and rub away any sticker remains.  The household rubbing alcohol you probably have in your bathroom cabinet should also work just fine.

Cigarette Burn Removal from Wood Furniture

For a cigarette burn that didn’t penetrated the wood finish, make a thin paste of pumice, boiled linseed oil and apply it to the burned area. Wax or polish, working with the grain of the wood.

Adding A Shining Look To Wood Furniture

To add a nice shine to wooden furniture, rub it first with vinegar before polishing.

How To Remove White Spots From Furniture

If you have white spots on your wooden furniture, you should work hard to remove the white, cloudy film or your wood can become permanently damaged.

  • Scrub the surface of the wood with a soft cloth that has been dipped in one half cup of ammonia and water.
  • Wipe the furniture dry immediately and polish.
  • If the white spots are still visible, use 3/0 steel wool and olive oil and rub lightly with the grain of the wood, then wax.
  • For very deep spots, rub in some cigarette ashes into the wood, and then clean off.
  • If the white spots still remain, you will have to strip off the old finish.

Cleaning and Deodorizing Your Garbage Disposals

Garbage disposals can get stinky even in a rainy daily. Here are a few tips to help keep your garbage disposer fresh.
Be sure to run it for a few minutes after washing dishes every time to keep any food from sitting in side, thus causing odors. Once in a while drop a quartered lemon, or any other citrus, into the disposal and run for 30 seconds.  Also, putting some baking soda down the drain and letting it sit for a while even overnight will help to freshen and remove all odors.
